About Zack Abernathy

Meet Zack Abernathy

Born and raised in Sonora, Zack Abernathy understands Tuolumne County because it is home. He began his career driving logging trucks, but like his father, he found his true calling in education and coaching.

Zack has spent his life leading teams, whether in sports, in the classroom, or in educational leadership. From the baseball diamond to the boardroom, he believes in hard work, accountability, and the power of community.

He still finds time to coach youth sports, and he remains deeply committed to making sure the next generation of Tuolumne County kids has the same chance to thrive that he did.

Leadership rooted in community. Focused on students. Committed to results.

I have spent my life serving Tuolumne County, first as a local student and athlete, then as a coach, educator, and leader. As Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools, I have worked to strengthen opportunities for students, support educators, expand career pathways, and keep families connected to their schools.

Now, I’m running for re-election to continue that work, with a clear vision grounded in three simple principles:

Lead. Learn. Grow.

Keep Tuolumne County Moving Forward

Zack Abernathy is running for re-election to continue building a culture of friendly public service, transparency, accountability, academic excellence, and community trust.

On June 2, vote to re-elect Zack Abernathy for Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools.

Delivering for Tuolumne County

During his first term, Zack Abernathy has followed through on the priorities he campaigned on and delivered meaningful results for students, families, and educators across Tuolumne County.

His record includes:

    • Maintaining a fiscally sound budget at the county schools office
    • Securing nearly $2 million in Career Technical Education grants
    • Opening two high-needs preschool classrooms and one additional high-needs primary classroom
    • Creating the Tuolumne County Teacher Residency Programto grow local educators and address teacher shortages
    • Advancing student mental health support through the LCSSP grant, helping reduce loneliness and thoughts of suicide among Tuolumne County youth

This is more than a campaign. It is a commitment to keep moving Tuolumne County forward.
